Longevity Kitchen - Crunchy Nut Granola
Centenarianism
The recent news about Adelina Domingues, who passed at the age of 114 and who was recognized as the oldest living American, got me thinking about how living well past 100 is going to be a realistic possibility for more and more people.
During the past year, I decided I was going to live to be at least 129! One of the benefits of this way of thinking is that instead of retiring in my sixties,
now I'm trying to decide what my next two careers are going to be.
Have you got plans for your next 60 years?
Maybe it's time to create some!
Longevity Kitchen - Crunchy Nut Granola
Sesame seeds and sunflower seeds give distinctive
flavor to this breakfast treat from The Wisconsin Room in Kohler, WI.
Makes about 4 cups
Nonstick vegetable oil spray
4 cups old-fashioned oats
1 cup chopped walnuts (about 4 ounces)
1 cup whole almonds (about 4 ounces)
1/2 cup sunflower seeds
1/2 cup sesame seeds
1/2 cup (packed) golden brown sugar
1/2 cup honey
1/3 cup wheat germ
1/4 cup vegetable oil
Preheat oven to 350 Fahrenheit.
Spray heavy large rimmed baking sheet with vegetable oil spray.
Toss all remaining ingredients in large bowl to blend.
Spread on prepared baking sheet.
Bake granola until crisp and golden brown, stirring frequently, about 15 minutes.
Cool completely.
Can be prepared 1 week ahead. Store in air-tight
container at room temperature.
Hot Tip
If you're cooking dinners, make enough so you can freeze several portions in re-usable plastic freezer containers for use as healthy lunches.
All the best to you,
